Stakeholders and supporters
State and federal health-related entities have a leading role to play in the advancement of the patient-centered medical home. More than 40 states have passed laws relating to the medical home, and federal agencies are actively pursuing demonstration projects and rollouts of the PCMH. Additional funding for such programs is included in the health care reform legislation passed by Congress in 2010. Insurers and purchasers of care (employers) are also playing an important role in supporting this multi-stakeholder effort.
The Patient Centered Primary Care Collaborative (PCPCC) has created the Center for Public Payer Implementation (CPPI) to promote the PCMH concept in all facets of the public payer system. It also coordinates the Center for Employer Engagement (CEE) to promote large and small employer interest in, and implementation of, the PCMH.
